Measurement of the uranium 235 mass contained in liquid or powder forms of uranium compounds

Description

A measurement device to quantify the uranium 235 mass contained in liquid or powder forms of uranium compounds is described. The principle of the method is the measurement of the apparent 185.7 keV gamma activity of U235 in a sample, the matricial self-attenuation correction being carried out by a transmission measurement of the 184.5 keV gamma rays of a holmium source. The device has been designed to be easily detachable and transportable so that accurate in-field measurements can be carried out. Specific software has been developed for the acquisition and treatment of experimental data. Results of measurements with reference compounds are presented. (authors). 1 fig., 2 tabs., 2 refs
