GIS-based multicriteria application in the selection of NPP site NTB

  • 1. Pusat Kajian Sistem Energi Nuklir - BATAN, Jl. Kuningan Barat, Mampang Prapatan, Jakarta 12710 (Indonesia)

Description

Selection of nuclear power plant (NPP) zones is a key phase of the NPP site selection process and can have a significant effect on safety and costs as long as the NPP operates. To prepare NPP program in NTB province, elections have been conducted in areas along the coast. The aim of the study was to obtain suitable zones for the location of NPP with multi criteria consideration in determining the NPP site using raster-based spatial analysis and GIS modeling. The potential site designation for NPP is based on several criteria, namely: road network, geology, hydrology, Human Induced Event, disaster vulnerability, morphology, land use, settlements, and RTRW. The method used in the research is quantitative descriptive and binary weighting. Based on the results of weighting and ranking using the GIS (Geographic Information System), 6 locations on the NTB coast are suitable to be used as potential sites for NPP. NPP prospective zone including 6 selected sites located in coastal areas. Land suitability analysis shows that all potential sites have fulfilled general and technical criteria, partly because they are not land not in the fault area, peat, and far from settlements.
