Primary processes of radiation chemistry and their special features in the condensed phase
Description
The problem of the equivalency of the radiation effect of different types of radiation is important for the dosimetry of ionizing radiation (particularly for liquid chemical dosimeters). The authors show here that the radiation effect in a condensed medium, generally speaking, depends not only on the linear energy loss but also on the type of radiation. Therefore, the occurrence of a dependence of the dosimeter radiation effect on the linear energy loss makes sense only when one type of radiation is utilized; and the use of dosimeters to measure the absorbed doses of different types of radiation without introducing a correction for specific track effects can result in large errors
