Verification of different approaches for determining the exhalation rate of 222Rn from soil for the estimation of CO2 exhalation

Description

In this work, the authors deal with the verification of different approaches for determining the exhalation rate of 222Rn from the soil using the most widespread theoretical relations, the values of which are subsequently used to calculate the exhalation rate of CO2 using radon calibrated method (RKM). Both types of results, i.e. calculated exhalation rates of 222Rn and CO2 are compared with their measured values obtained from long-term exhalation measurements using the accumulation method carried out on the same area during one year. The calculated values of exhalation rates fluctuate significantly in the short term depending on meteorological elements such as temperature or soil moisture, or on the concentration of 222Rn and CO2 in the soil, but in a wider time span these trends smooth out.
