Inelastic light scattering of the Vsub(K) centers in the alkali halides

Description
The Raman spectra of the 'self-trapped hole' or Vsub(K) center are measured in LiF, KCl, and RbCl. The localized vibrational modes induced by these centers are situated at 437, 241, and 244 cm-1, respectively. The vibrational modes of the Vsub(K) center in the alkali chlorides and fluorides are calculated, making use of a semi-empirical energy function. These calculations are discussed and compared with the experimental data. (author)
