Description

RTNS-2 (Rotating Target Neutron Source - 2) in the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory in the United States is being used actively as the most powerful 14 MeV neutron source in the world. Two accelerators with neutron generation exceeding 1013 n/s are used in parallel. Their performances are the extremity of this kind. In the Japan-US cooperation of nuclear fusion research, RTNS-2 has been put to joint use by Japan and United States, in even usage and even defrayment, since February, 1982. It contributes significantly to the research on fusion reactor materials. The following matters are described: Japan-US joint usage of RTNS-2, the present status and future prospect of RTNS-2, the utilization procedure for RTNS-2 in Japan, and the results of research with RTNS-2 in Japan. Abstract (Japanese)
