The 222 MeV rvec p+p parity violation experiment at TRIUMF

Description

A new beamline is being constructed at TRIUMF for a measurement of the parity violating longitudinal analyzing power Az in rvec p+p elastic scattering at 222 MeV. The beamline will replace the existing neutron line, and is designed to deliver a 500 nA beam of longitudinally polarized protons. The beam on target is completely achromatic. A dipole magnet will be placed at the present location of the liquid deuterium neutron production target to direct the proton beam down the new beamline, and a 1μA beam dump is to be drilled from inside the proton hall directly into the surrounding earth. The new beamline provides space to mount the large amount of specialized diagnostic equipment required to measure and correct for unwanted modulations of beam properties such as intensity shape, position and transverse polarization
