Advantages of scintigraphy with the scanner
Description
Despite some constructional drawbacks the scanner is a better instrument for the special demands of static scintigraphy of the thyroid gland than the gamma camera. Advantages of the scanner are its imaging properties especially when I-131 is used, the more comfortable and less blurred imaging in lying position, the warranted 1:1 representation and the simple and precise transfer of the palpatory findings on the scintigram. For imaging of the thyroid gland the use of the scanner may be more economic under suitable circumstances, despite a lengthening of the examination time. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Trotz konstruktiver Nachteile ist der Scanner fuer die speziellen Anforderungen der statischen Schilddruesenszintigraphie besser geruestet als die Gammakamera. Vorteile fuer den Scanner ergeben sich aus den Abbildungseigenschaften speziell bei Anwendung von Jod-131, der bequemeren und verwacklungssicheren Untersuchung im Liegen, der garantierten 1:1-Wiedergabe, sowie der einfachen und praezisen Uebertragung des Palpationsbefundes auf das Szintigramm. Bei gegebenen Voraussetzungen erweist sich trotz laengerer Untersuchungszeiten der Einsatz eines Scanners in der Schilddruesenszintigraphie als die wirtschaftlichere Loesung.
