The contributions of this seminar addressed the following issues: Conditions for a sustainable development for energy and water as vital elements for mankind; Fundamental aspects, present situation and perspectives for photovoltaic solar energy; Solar resource and problematic of the different photovoltaic technologies; Characteristics of a wind and photovoltaic energy project; Potentialities of renewable energies in drinking water production and sanitation in Morocco; Existing experiences of rural hydraulic and renewable energies; Design of a micro- and ultrafiltration unit operating with solar energy; Energy aspects of water treatments; Contributions of water and sanitation services to energy saving and to the struggle against climate change; Energy in the operating cost in the case of ultrafiltration for drinking water production; Canary Islands Institute of Technology experiences in desalination with renewable energies; Energy comparison with other non conventional processes for the desalination of sea water and brackish waters; New sea water pretreatments for desalination: Multiple-effect drying and condensation (MEDC) as an innovative and efficient desalination technology; Study of a brackish water greenhouse desalination unit powered by geothermal energy (a case study from Algeria); Selection, dimensioning and costs for wastewater treatment in small settlements; Planted filters of reeds and energy optimisation (example of use of photovoltaic energy); The AMEB project of biogas as automotive fuel
