MRI and clinical analysis of moyamoya disease

Description
Objective: To probe the MRI diagnostic characteristic of Moyamoya disease. Methods: The conventional MRI and TOFMRA of the brain and the clinical manifestation were analyzed in seven patients with Moyamoya disease. Results: 1. Thalamus hemorrhage was noted in 3 patients, multiple focular infarction in 2 cases, ischemia and hemorrhagic infarction was displayed in 1 patient, respectively. Tortuous blood vessels in the basic ganglion were demonstrated in 6 patients and those in both suprasellar and ambient cisterns were noted in 7 patients. 2. Bilateral narrowed M1 segment and un-demonstrated whole course of the middle cerebral artery was found in 4 cases and 3 cases, respectively. Bilateral narrowed A1 segment and un-demonstrated whole course of the anterior cerebral artery was found in 3 cases and 4 cases, respectively. Bilateral narrowed and un-demonstrated trunk of the posterior cerebral artery was noted in 3 cases, respectively, and unilateral narrowed trunk noted in 1 case. Conclusion: The diagnosis of Moyamoya disease should be based upon the combination of the manifestations of both conventional MRI of the cisterns, basic ganglion and TOFMRA
