Radiation source production method
Description
Herein disclosed is a method of producing a radiation source, especially a β-ray source, the mechanical strength of which is heightened by the incorporation of a reinforcing core adapted to permit both sides of the body to serve as emissive surfaces. A radionuclide powder is uniformly dispersed over a metallic mesh to a thickness identical therewith, the outer periphery of the mesh being sandwiched between a surrounding supporting frame. By a suitable compaction procedure, the mesh and radionuclide powder are united into a thin, reinforced plate-like body exhibiting a low level of self-absorption. (K.J. Owens)
