Plasma thermonuclear cyclotron-magnetoacoustic instability

Description
It is shown that a small quantity of thermonuclear reaction products in a plasma is sufficient to excite magnetoacoustic cyclotron waves. Instability criteria are obtained. The instability is compared in a toroidal system and in a mirror system. We investigate the effectiveness of shear stabilization. It is shown that even with significant shear the system can still be unstable; however, the threshold value of the concentrations of reaction products is higher
