Ballooning modes in three-dimensional MHD equilibria with shear
Description
Stability with respect to ballooning modes in arbitrary, three-dimensional, ideal MHD equilibria with shear is studied. The destabilizing perturbations considered here have finite gradients along the field and are localized around a closed magnetic field line, the localization being weaker on the surface than transversally to it. This kind of localization allows the problem of stability to be reduced to the solution of a one-dimensional eigenvalue problem. (orig.)

Die Stabilitaet beliebiger, drei-dimensionaler, idealer MHD-Gleichgewichte mit Scherung wird im Hinblick auf Ballonmoden untersucht. Die hier betrachteten destabilisierenden Stoerungen haben endliche Gradienten in Richtung des Feldes und sind um eine geschlossene magnetische Feldlinie herum lokalisiert, wobei die Lokalisierung an der Oberflaeche schwaecher ist als in transversaler Richtung. Diese Art der Lokalisierung erlaubt die Zurueckfuehrung des Stabilitaetsproblems auf die Loesung eines ein-dimensionalen Eigenwertproblems. (orig.)Additional details
