Effect of electrostatic instability on discharge characteristics of a plasma accelerator with anode layer

Description
Electrostatic instability of the ion beam is investigated experimentally for its effect on the anode layer plasma accelerator efficiency under both acceleration and anomalous conditions. The dynamic virtual anode creation at the outlet of the ion accelerator is shown to change considerably the static discharge characteristics under the acceleration conditions which may be the cause for the discharge to transform to the anomalous conditions
