Pulse radiolysis of 2-mercapto benzimidazole in aqueous solutions

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Applied Chemistry Division

Description

The initial eaq-/H adducts of 2-mercapto benzimidazole(MBZ) (λmax ∼ 370 nm) which are mild reductants react with parent compound to give an intermolecular 3-electron bonded species with λmax at 590 nm. The rate constants for the reactions of MBZ with eaq- and OH radicals at pH 7 and with H-atoms at pH 2 were determined. OH radical reaction with MBZ gives an intramolecular 3-electron bonded species.
