The invention relates to a process for transforming uranium hexafluoride into an uranium oxide by injecting uranium hexafluoride and dry steam into a part of a vessel so as to form a plume of uranyl fluoride and, in another part, the reaction of the uranyl fluoride with steam or hydrogen flowing counter current in an oven
