Very high temperature gas-cooled reactor critical facility for Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute
Description
The Very High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor Critical Facility (VHTRC), which was delivered by IHI to its owner, Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute(JAERI), is a reactor physical experiment system whose objectives are to corroborate safeguard of the multipurpose Very High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (VHTR) against nuclear reaction and to secure data concerning characteristic improvement of the reactor. The line-up of these objectives are extended to include critical quantity of VHTR, reactional value of combustible poison rods and data acquisition of output distribution, where the system is applied to carry out these experiments. The system is built on a 1/2 scale of VHTR planned by JAERI. The graphite block and the fuel compact of the system with an approximately identical dimensions and formation is designed to facilitate detailed trial experiment of the experimental reactor.
