Rooting pattern and nutrient uptake in some barley varieties under irrigated and unirrigated conditions

Description
More than 50 percent roots were present in 0-8 cm depth in barley varieties, C-164, K-572/10 and IB-226 when they were grown under irrigated conditions. However, the variety C-164 behaved similarly under unirrigated conditions which may be the cause of low N and P uptake by this variety. IB-226 yielded maximum under unirrigated conditions whereas under irrigated conditions, no such differences were observed. Carrier free 32P in dil HCl(H332PO4) was used as a tracer in the investigations. (author)
