Quality assurance for medical radiological equipment: computation and experimental study of the primary beam

  • 1. Ravenna Hospital (Italy). Servizio di Fisica Sanitaria

Description

A knowledge of the spectral-energy distribution of the primary beam is required for the evaluation and optimisation of image quality. A mathematical model was studied and applied, in order to compute theoretical primary spectra from diagnostic X-ray beams. The method used is described and some calculated spectra compared with HPA spectra (1979) are presented. Exposure measurements have also been included, for comparison with the calculated values.
