Creep of Clayey Soil with Kinematic Shear, Taking into Account Internal Friction, Adhesion and Viscous Resistance

Description

The article presents the results of experimental studies of the ultimate shear resistance of clayey soil during kinematic shear (γ 1>γ 2>γ 3>γ 4), which are necessary for a quantitative assessment of the effect of shear rate on the magnitude of the ultimate shear resistance. It is shown that this effect is due to the viscous resistance of water-colloidal bonds between particles. Structural adhesion and Coulomb friction does not depend on the shear rate. A new rheological equation has been obtained, which makes it possible to describe the kinematic shear process at various compressive loads (σ) and shear rates (γ), with high accuracy, including the dependence of the ultimate shear resistance on the logarithm of the shear rate (Inγ). In this case, the shear resistance in the kinematic shear process grows more slowly than when describing the shear using the Maxwell model. (paper)
