Lyoluminescent dosimetry of ionizing radiations

Description

In the described method of ionising radiations (IR) dosimetry information is usually obtained by measuring the total light of luminescence Ssub(l) emitted when irradiated solids are dissolved. The detector sensitivity to IR is characterised by the quantum efficiency of the luminescence q. The dependence of q on the absorbed dosage is presented for the cases when glucose is dissolved in KON and HCl solutions, and in distilled water; the luminescence spectra were found to be different in these cases. The table is presented in which the atomic compositon and the effective atomic number Zsub(eff.) of muscular tissue and some carbohydrates appropriate for lyoluminescent dosimetry (LLD) are given. The following advantages of LLD are noted: high limiting (calculated) sensitivity; not less than that of thermoluminescent dosimetry; wide range of dosage measured; good preservation of dosage information; insensitivity of the detectors to day-time light of moderate intensity; simplicity of detector making; universal properties of the detectros; the possibility of sensitivity adjustment to different types of IR
