Description
Using metallographic, differential, thermal and X-ray crystal analysis and microhardness methods, the authors determined the limiting solubility in chromium of five rare-earth metals of the yttrium sub-group at the temperatures of monotectic transformation and at 1700deg, 1600deg, 1400deg and 900degC. The influence of the quantity of alloying additive on the microhardness of the chrome-based solid solution and on the microstructure and hardness of the alloys was investigated. The temperatures of monotectic and eutectic transformation were determined. The changes in the physical properties of the solid solution as a function of composition are explained on the basis of notions of phase equilibria in multi-component systems. (author)
