What future for the nuclear channel?

The report delivered at the end of july to the Prime Minister analyzes the future of the nuclear channel at short and long term. For the short term, it emphasizes the interest to extend the lifetime of nuclear power plants, but the continuation of reprocessing does not appear as a very efficient solution. For the long term, about 2050, the nuclear channel has at one's disposal broad gaps of competitiveness. What is sure, that is whatever are the future prices of gas, the structure of the production park and the external costs, the scenario at low consumption are globally more economic than the scenario at high consumption. It is perhaps the moment to launch an ambitious policy of energy demand control. (N.C.)
