Experience with the mechanical performance and distortion behaviour of the PFR absorber system

  • 1. AEA Technology, Dounreay (United Kingdom)

Description

The ability of the United Kingdom Prototype Fast Reactor (PFR) absorber system to shut-down the reactor on demand is of prime safety significance. The mechanical performance of the system can be affected by processes operating within and above the core so it is essential that performance is regularly monitored during operation. In this paper, experience with the in-service mechanical performance of the PFR absorber system and the distortion behaviour of the in-core components of the system is described. (author)
