The influence of temperature in the characterization of nuclear resonance

Description

A detailed analysis carried out to determine the temperature effects on the selection of different types of resonance for Resonance Integral calculations is presented. The type of approximation (WR, IR or NR) to be applied to the slowing down integral of the neutron balance equation depends on the relationship between the average energy lost by the neutron and the practical width. A method to include the temperature dependence in the ratio ΔE/GAMMA sub(p) is proposed. The results allowed us to show that this dependence negligence may lead to large errors in the Resonance Integral calculation. (Author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Apresenta-se uma analise detalhada do efeito da temperatura no selecionamento dos diferentes tipos de ressonancia para utilizacao no calculo da Integral de Ressonancia. A aproximacao feita na integral de moderacao da equacao de balanco de neutrons depende da relacao entre a energia perdida pelo neutron em uma colisao com o nucleo e a largura pratica. Mostra-se que esta relacao depende da temperatura, e apresentamos um metodo para incluir essa dependencia. Atraves dos resultados verificamos que uma elevada imprecisao no calculo da Integral de Ressonancia pode ser obtida em consequencia a uma identificacao errada do tipo de ressonancia. (Autor)
