Spins and saddle point shapes from large fragment emission

Description
The authors have investigated the angular momentum dependence of the conditional saddle point masses, or barriers, as a function of asymmetry in large fragment emission from compound nuclei produced in the reactions of 200 MeV 45Sc + 65Cu carried out in the spin spectrometer. The large fragments were detected with two large area gas, Si(Li) telescopes near 90 degree and 60 degree in the center of mass. Fragments with relaxed kinetic energies near Z=8 show a strong odd-even effect, while above Z=12 a gradually increasing yield is observed which can be reproduced by a liquid drop calculation. The γ-ray multiplicity distributions for each Z were measured. Calculations mapping the (IL + IH) distributions to those for Mγ via a statistical model similation are compared with experiment
