Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Applied to Studies of Metallic Glasses
Description
The various applications of NMR to the study of metallic glasses are reviewed. First, the information that can be obtained from NMR about the atomic-scale structure of amorphous metallic alloys is presented. Then the results of Knight shift and spin-lattice relaxation time measurements in paramagnetic amorphous alloys are summarized with a special emphasis placed on three different cases: the pure Korringa contributions, the superconducting regime and the influence of dilute magnetic impurities. Finally, the hyperfine interactions in amorphous ferromagnetic alloys from both the host hyperfine studies and the hyperfine field measurements at the sites of elements soluted in ferromagnetic amorphous matrices are analysed.
