Description
Ultraviolet spectroscopy at 1.2 A resolution of the two gravitationally lensed images of Q0957+561 has lead to the discovery of a new absorption-line system at z/sub abs/ = 1.1249. This is visible as a C IV lambdalambda1548, 1550 doublet in both images A0957+561A, B. The absorption lines have the same strengths in both images and have a velocity difference Δν/sub abs/ = -8 +- 11 km s-1. The velocity dispersion of the absorbing cloud is sigma/sub ν/<26 km s-1
