The combined effect of vibrations and low-cycle fatigue on the lifetime of the 15Kh2NMFA steel

Description
A steel plate processed in the same way as the reactor pressure vessel wall was tested. The experiments were accomplished on an electrohydraulic stand and were controlled with a computer. The effect of stress on the lifetime was examined in conditions of controlled amplitude of the total deformation. The effect of stress on the crack propagation was tested on CT bars. The kinetics of fatigue crack growth was evaluated based on potentiometric measurements and by using an optical microscope. The fatigue crack growth rates under combined stress were found no higher than under high-cycle constant-amplitude stress. Additional high-cycle low-amplitude stress brought about a marked increase in the fatigue crack growth rate. (M.D.). 3 figs., 5 refs
