Prognosis of recurrences in case of operated and post-irradiated carcinoma mastitoides

Between 1970 and 1973, 411 patients suffering of carcinoma mastitoides of all stages were post-irradiated under high-voltage conditions in the Institute of Radiology in Tuebingen. These cases were evaluated in order to study the importance of the appearance of a local or regional recurrence. 65 of the patients (= 15,8%) presented recurrences; in 28 of these cases a remote formation of metastases could be diagnosed already before the appearance of the recurrence or at the same time. In 37 cases (= 9%), the recurrence was the first and, in the beginning, the only symptom showing a progression of the primary disease. Only a short time later, 30 of these 37 patients were affected with new tumor manifestations. In most of these cases, a close correlation in time can be demonstrated between the appearance of the recurrence and other manifestations of the tumor. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
In einer Auswertung von 411 Mammakarzinompatientinnen aller Stadien, die in den Jahren 1970 bis 1973 im Tuebinger Strahleninstitut unter Hochvoltbedingungen nachbestrahlt worden waren, wird die Bedeutung des Auftretens eines lokalen bzw. regionalen Rezidivs untersucht. Bei insgesamt 65 Patientinnen (15,8%) traten Rezidive auf; bei 28 dieser 65 Patientinnen war bereits zuvor oder mit Auftreten des Rezidivs eine Fernmetastasierung diagnostizierbar. Bei 37 Patientinnen (9%) war das Rezidiv erstes und zunaechst einziges Symptom einer Progression der Grunderkrankung. Nach zumeist kurzer Zeit wurden jedoch bei 30 Patientinnen dieser 37 Rezidivtraegerinnen neue Tumormanifestationen beobachtet. In der ueberwiegenden Mehrzahl der Faelle kann eine enge zeitliche Beziehung zwischen Auftreten eines Rezidivs und anderen Manifestationen des Tumors gezeigt werden. (orig.)Additional details
