Protocol for characterization and intercomparison of alpha beta measurement between detectors, surface barrier and proportional sealed in fixed and field laboratories

Description
In this work, alpha and beta particle measurements were performed with the purpose of intercomparison the results from two different equipment, namely: a sealed proportional (NT-200) and a surface barrier detector (iMatic). Both equipment are already installed in the Institute of Chemical Biological Radiological Defense (IDQBRN), located in the Technological Center of the Army (CTEx). In situations that result in accidental or intentional exposure or contamination to alpha beta-emitting materials, such equipment is used in the analysis of samples from the above-mentioned situations. The NT-200 is initially used for analysis of the field samples, in case there is a need for a better evaluation or a proof of results these measurements will be carried out with iMatic. By exposing the equipment to the same emitting source and under the same conditions of use, the alpha efficiency from an 241Am source is 16.4 and 38% for the beta from the 90Sr source of 13.8% and 28%, respectively, for the NT-200 and iMatic.
