Gamma-ray energy spectra emitted from spheres with 14 MeV neutron source

Description

Energy spectra of gamma rays were measured using the 14 MeV neutron source. The gamma rays were produced from pulses of 14 MeV neutrons generated by D-T reactions. The errors listed for the various materials used in the spheres were assessed from (i) uncertainty in the monitoring of absolute fluxes of the source neutrons, (ii) errors in the response matrix, and (iii) statistical deviation. The emission spectra were dominated by the gamma rays from (n,n') and (n, 2n) reactions rather than the gamma rays from (n,γ) reaction, and thus lend themselves for the assessment of energy distributions of gamma rays from non-elastic scattering by high-energy neutrons
