Production of 59Ni from α-bombardment of iron
Description
The formation cross section of 59Ni from natural iron has been measured as a function of α-particle energy up to 25 MeV. The maximum value for 59Ni formation from natural iron is approximately 850 mb at 16 MeV. Monte Carlo calculations of the reaction cross sections for 56Fe(α,n)59Ni and 57Fe(α,2n)59Ni were performed and the calculated results were compared with the experimental ones. The cross sections obtained in this experiment were used to estimate the 59Ni production in cosmic dusts by low energy (solar) particles. (Auth.)
