Description

A stationary accelerator is proposed that operates according to the classical cyclotron principle with modified geometries of electrodes and of the magnetic field, and that gives stable orbit and phase positions also for weakly relastivistic velocities (rotationally symmetric magnetic field, annular ion source, acceleration between concentric annular electrodes in a metallic resonator as the accelerating chamber and vacuum tank; epicycloid-like orbits of the ions along the accelerating electrodes - 'epicyclotron' -, automatic focusing of all ions on a small target area in the interior or extraction of the ions in the shape of a parallel beam, the ion source specifically suitable for multiple ionizatio, beam power in the megawatt region). There is no real design given, only the working principle is described in detail. Finally some examples of application for which such an accelerator should be suited are given. (author)
