New aspects of the X-Ray Ordinance

Description
The new section 16 of the Ordinance, pertaining to 'quality assurance for X-ray equipment for the examination of man' lays down a three-stage procedure that is to guarantee lowest possible radiation exposure and standard quality of examination. As regards the physician's expert knowledge in radiation protection, the provisions defining the requirements for expert knowledge certificates have to be re-examined, because the Ordinance requires that the X-ray examination of man is to be guided and decided upon exclusively by a physician who is a radiologist, so that the Ordinance's provisions have to be harmonized with the further education of physicians in accordance with the ethics of the medical profession. Abstract (German)
Der neue Paragraph 16 'Qualitaetssicherung bei Roentgeneinrichtungen zur Untersuchung von Menschen' soll durch ein Dreistufenkonzept gewaehrleisten, dass die Roentgenuntersuchungen mit einer moeglichst geringen Strahlenexposition, die dem heutigen Stand der medizinischen Wissenschaft angepasst ist, und nach anerkannten Qualitaetskriterien durchgefuehrt werden. Bezueglich der Fachkunde im Strahlenschutz fuer Aerzte wird es unabdingbar werden, die Erfuellung der Fachkundevoraussetzungen neu zu ueberdenken. Dies vor allem deshalb, weil laut Verordnung nur ein fachkundiger Arzt festlegen darf, ob und in welcher Weise Roentgenstrahlen an Menschen angewendet werden (Paragraph 24 Abs. 3). Eine bessere Harmonisierung der Fachkunderichtlinie mit der aerztlichen Weiterbildung nach dem Standesrecht bietet sich hier als Loesung an. (orig./DG)Additional details
