Description
Transient intermediates formed on γ-radiolysis of phenylcyclohexane in organic glasses at 77 K were characterized from a study of their absorption spectra and the changes produced in them by electron scavengers, proton acceptors and optical bleaching. It is concluded that optical absorption bands observed at 385 nm having vibrational structure, and 705 nm are due to solute cation and bands at 410 nm having vibrational structure, and 590 nm are due to solute anion. The optical absorption bands have been assigned to (ππ*) transitions. 5 refs. (author)
