Materials Degradation in condensers and feedwater heaters

Description

In this paper, the causes of failures in condensers and FWHs are reviewed. However, failures induced wholly or partly by corrosion account for a large fraction of the total number of failures and they will be discussed in greater detail. It will become apparent that susceptibility to many of these corrosion-induced failures can be eliminated or greatly reduced simply by preventing air from entering the steam/water cycle. It will also become evident that many of the water-side failures in condensers can be avoided if tube surfaces are kept clean and free of debris, deposits, and marine life
