Description

A review of experimental and theoretical works concerned with the itinerant electron metamagnetism phenomenon - a discontinuous transition of a paramagntic itinerant electron system to the magnetically ordered state under the action of a magnetic field. The conditions for the occurence of the metamagnetic transition are formulated in limits of the Stoner model, and the theory of itinerant metamagnetism for weak itinerant magnets is given. The influence of a spin fluctuation on the properties of itinerant metamagnets is considered. the results of experimental studies of itinerant metamagnetism induced by external ot internal effective magnetic fields in the d-electron system for some intermetallics are presented. Co (Se1-xSx)2, Y(Co1-xAlx)2, Lu(Cl1-xAlx)2 systems. RCO2, ThCo5, CeCo5 and some other phenomena concerned as itinerant metamagnetism with a strong energy dependence of density of states near the Fermi level are discussed
