Simultaneous determination of 237Np and 239Pu in foods
- 1. Liaoning Inst. of Labour Health, Shengyang (China)
Description
Neptunium and plutonium in samples were concentrated by coprecipitation with calcium oxalate. Np(IV) and Pu(IV) were extracted with 10% tri-n-octylamine (TOA)-20% acetone-70% xylene from 8N hydrochloric acid. The samples for counting were prepared by electrodeposition. The activities of 237Np and 239Pu were measured with a low background alpha spectrometer. The recoveries of 237Np and 239Pu from 5 g of food ash are (80.1 ± 9.6)% and (75.2 ± 7.8)%, respectively. The lower limits of determination for 237Np and 239Pu are 6.0 x 10-16 and 6.1 x 10-16 Ci/g (ash) respectively. These satisfy the needs for analysis of 237Np and 23'9Pu in foods. The analytical results for five kinds of foods are presented
