Description
The gyrotron is an electron tube capable of generating large outputs of several hundred kilowatts in the millimeter-wave range with high efficiency (roughly 40%). In order to design the electron gun and cavity resonator for a gyrotron, simulation technology to solve the relativistic equation of electron motion is needed. In designing the electron gun, the electron-beam path and velocity dispersion are calculated in order to obtain a good-quality electron beam. In designing the cavity resonator, interaction between the high-frequency electromagnetic field and electron beam is calculated. Experimental results for the case of a 48GHz gyrotron are also described. (author)
