Annual progress report of the Grenoble Research Group. January 1 to December 31 1974

Description

The activity of the General Ionics Service between January 1st and December 31st 1974 is reviewed. The CIRCE experiment (ion confinement in the electrostatic potential well created by hot ions) was accelerated for completion by the end of the year. Research was continued on the production of positive or negative light ions, multi-charged heavy ions and fast neutral ions from very highly ionized hot electron plasmas created by electron cyclotron resonance. The theoretical and experimental research and the construction work on the toroidal machines Petula and Wega form a coherent programme with a single aim: the heating of plasmas

Abstract (French)

On presente un bilan de l'activite du Service d'Ionique Generale du 1er janvier au 31 decembre 1974. L'experience CIRCE (confinement d'ions dans le puits de potentiel electrostatique cree par des ions chauds) a ete activee en vue de son arret en fin d'annee. On a poursuivi l'etude de la production d'ions legers positifs ou negatifs, d'ions lourds multicharges et de neutres rapides a partir de plasmas a electrons chauds et a tres haute ionisation, crees par resonance cyclotron electronique. Les etudes theoriques et experimentales ainsi que les activites de construction des machines toroidales Petula et Wega forment un ensemble coherent a but unique: le chauffage des plasmas
