Observation of changes of serum epidermal growth factor levels in patients with nasal polyps
Description
Objective: To investigate the clinical significance of changes of serum epidermal growth factor (EGF) levels in patients with nasal polyps. Methods: Serum EGF levels were determined with RIA in 29 patients with nasal polyp both before and after treatment as well as 30 controls. Results: Before treatment, serum EGF levels in the patients were significantly higher than those in the controls. After treatment, serum EGF levels decreased significantly but were still significantly higher than those in controls. Conclusion: The changes of serum EGF levels may be closely related to the development of nasal polyps. (authors)
