Thin gas target for neutron investigations

  • 1. Gosudarstvennyj Komitet po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Atomnoj Ehnergii

Description

A well reproduciable and controllable gas target is described which yields neutron beams in the energy range En of 1-5 MeV with the energy spread ΔE from 1 to 5 keV. Benzene vapors (12C(d,n)) and heavy water vapors (D(d,n)) are used as the working agents, the fast pumping-out being attained by liquid nitrogen freezing. The neutron yield for a 2 MeV deuteron beam is about the same in both reactions and amounts to 3.3x1O4 n/sxsr per 1 μA of the deuteron current
