Radiation therapy of penile cancer with hight-energy electron beams

  • 1. International Medical Center of Japan, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

From 1974 through 1991, 16 patients with penile cancer underwent radiation therapy to the primary site and/or inguinal lymph nodes in our Department. In 11 of the 16 patients, radiation to the primary was performed by high energy electron beams. Local control was obtained in 6 of the 7 T1 and T2 lesions, while all 4 patients with more advanced lesions succombed to failure. Ten of the 16 patients were clinically NO and 4 recurred in inguinal lymph node. Prophylactic inguinal irradiation up to 50 Gy had no side effect and remains to be studied as a treatment of choice.
