Description
The phase relationships in the system Nd-Al-O-N at both subsolidus temperatures and 1700 deg.C were determined. A nitrogen-containing Nd-β-alumina, NdAl12O18N, was identified. The unit cell dimensions were determined to be a=5.557 A and c=22.00 A. At 1700 deg.C an extensive liquid region exists in the triangle Nd2O3-Nd2AlO3N-NdAlO3. 8 refs.; 2 figs.; 2 tabs
