Description
An experimental simulation of water level detection in boiling water reactors is presented. The water in a vertical pipe was irradiated with fast neutrons produced by a neutron generator, whereby 16O was activated to 16N. Two BGO detectors along the pipe at two different heights measured the gamma radiation at different water levels. The 16N detection in a boiling water reactor could thus be simulated in an experimental set-up with a minimum of other sources. (orig.)
