Description
The final iron product of the 60-Co gamma radiolysis of lithium trisoxalatoferrate(III) pentahydrate has been identified by Moessbauer spectroscopy as FeC2O4.2H2O. Quantitative chemical and Moessbauer analyses show that the radiolytic decomposition proceeds as a first order reaction as a function of the absorbed dose. Chemical calibration of the relative peaks areas of the two iron species indicates that the corresponding Lamb-Moessbauer factors ratio is unaffected by the radiolysis.
