Performance of the Cologne FN tandem with a combination of Dowlish and HVEC tubes

  • 1. Inst. fuer Kernphysik, Univ. Koeln (Germany)

Description

In May 1991 the HVEC tubes at the low energy (LE) end of the Cologne FN tandem were replaced by Dowlish spiral inclined tubes with titanium electrodes because of problems with tube II. In this paper details of the conditioning procedure are given as well as a report on the general performance of the new tubes and the total machine. In addition, some column problems caused by operating the machine at high terminal voltages (up to 11 MV) will be discussed. (orig.)
