Charge-state dependence of energy losses of 3.2 MeV Li ions specularly reflected from the surface of a single crystal

  • 1. Kyoto Univ. (Japan). Dept. of Engineering Science

Description

The dependence of energy losses of specularly reflected ions on incident and exit charge states is measured at glancing-angle incidence for 3.2 MeV Li ions on a clean (001) surface of a SnTe single crystal. Observed energy losses of Lij+ for incident Lii+ are nearly equal to those of Lii+ for incident Lij+. Using a stochastic model of the charge exchange and the energy loss of ions, position-dependent charge-exchange probabilities of MeV Li ions on the surface and position-dependent stopping powers of the surface are derived from the observed charge-state distributions and energy losses.
