Application of fluorimetry in nuclear area

  • 1. Centro de Desenvolvimento da Tecnologia Nuclear (CDTN), Belo Horizonte, MG (Brazil)

Description

Uranium is the main element in nuclear cycle. It's a very important commercial product and very toxic, too. It is necessary to control its concentration in environmental, materials and man. The CDTN, (Nuclear Technology Development Institute, Brazilian (CNEN) has been applied the fluorimetry technique for 20 years determining uranium in several matrices like water, solid and liquid waste, ores, sediments, alloys, urine and biomaterials. This paper is about the application of the fluorimetry technique, the advantages and disadvantages, the chemical procedures alongside of programmes to insure the quality of results. The detection limit is of 10-10 g. (author). 4 refs., 2 tabs
